AUTOCOMMIT by gen-model-colls.sh script. Message: Rebuilding all tudor GS3 model collections with import/englishhistory.net/tudor/tudorq3.html adjusted to no longer make references to itself (tudorq3.html) after yesterday's commit 30022. This is not crucial, but it is tidier. But in any case the affected model collections needed to be rebuilt after the change for commit 30022.

84 Warnicke's The Rise and Fall of Anne Boleyn questioned many of

10538-year reign saw England transformed from a sleepy backwater of
106jousting tournaments and Catholic piety to a nation torn by religious

108
109
110
"He was a very troubled man," observes Winstone, who in

112icon familiar from Hans Holbein paintings. "This is a man who allowed
113two of his wives - women he loved passionately - to be murdered. At the
114same time, he wrote beautiful love letters, understood science and, to
115a certain extent, was a great ambassador. He was an intelligent,

131Gallifrey, the new Doctor Who series will feature an
132appearance by Henry VIII:

133

134
An article in the
135June 29 Daily Star says that the new Doctor Who series "will feature
136historic figures including Shakespeare, Henry VIII and Einstein - who
137are locked up together inside a Big Brother-style house. Famous
138housemates will face eviction and death from aliens when the classic
139sci-fi show comes back to our screens next year. The new series, which
140stars Christopher Eccleston as Dr Who, is aiming to win over a whole
141new generation of young followers of the Tardis timelord. Christopher
142said: 'We can parallel things with science fiction and address what's
143going on around us to a certain extent for young people without being
144pompous.' In one of the planned episodes of the hotly-awaited series,
145some of the world's most famous figures from the past are kidnapped
146from their time zones by aliens. They are put in a Big Bruvstyle house
147for extraterrestrial television entertainment." (Thanks

172
173Blanchett is expected to take the throne again and star in the epic -
174based on Queen Elizabeth I - which has the working title of Golden
175Age. "It is about the battle between her life as a monarch and her

179
180The Indian-born Kapur said the script, which Michael Hirst is working

197 1955
198version of
199Richard III. This was the third Shakespeare play which
200Olivier both directed and starred in (after Henry V and Hamlet)
201and remains the definitive film treatment of Richard III.
202Olivier's work is incredible, - he is the physical embodiment of
203villainy, plotting with gleeful malevolence one moment and inspiring
204our pity the next. And if anyone is wondering why this is
205included at the Tudor Media News page, well - the future Henry
206VII does make an appearance and the Battle of Bosworth Field marks both
207the end of Richard's life and the beginning of the Tudor dynasty.

213and Mary: Cousins, Rivals, Queens by Jane Dunn was recently
214released. I am still working on the new and improved Reviews
215section, but here is a quick review - a worthwhile addition to your
216Tudor library. I've read enough about both women to wonder if I
217would learn anything from this book, but I was pleasantly
218surprised. A liberal use of primary sources plus a lovely
219selection of portraits - and the book jacket and boards are beautifully
220designed. As competition for Alison Plowden's Two Queens in
221One Isle, this book is the better choice.

222

223

226 alt="John Guy biography" width="100" height="151">At last!
227Finally, another major biography of Mary Stuart has been
228released.
229 Queen of Scots: The True Life of Mary Stuart is by
230noted Tudor historian John Guy. Antonia Fraser's biography
231was serviceable but my own casual research revealed large gaps in her
232use of primary sources. I always wondered - when would another
233historian focus on Mary's tumultuous life? I should note that the
234UK version of this work is entitled My Heart is My Own: The Life of
235Mary Queen of Scots and the jacket features the Clouet sketch of an
236adolescent Mary. The American edition, shown above, has the 'hat'
237portrait minus the hat! As an admirer of
238 the hat
239and its fluffy feather, I'm rather disappointed.

247two existing major biographies of Anne (by Carrolly Erickson and Retha
248Warnicke), this one is the most successful 'popular' biography.
249And no, I don't mean 'popular' as a slur; far from it. I'll post
250my review at the new Reviews section when I've finished.
