AUTOCOMMIT by gen-model-colls.sh script. Message: Rebuilding all tudor GS2 model collections with import/englishhistory.net/tudor/tudorq3.html adjusted to no longer make references to itself (tudorq3.html) after yesterday's commit 30022. This is not crucial, but it is tidier. But in any case the affected model collections needed to be rebuilt after the change for commit 30022.

10638-year reign saw England transformed from a sleepy backwater of
107jousting tournaments and Catholic piety to a nation torn by religious

109
110
111
"He was a very troubled man," observes Winstone, who in

113icon familiar from Hans Holbein paintings. "This is a man who allowed
114two of his wives - women he loved passionately - to be murdered. At the
115same time, he wrote beautiful love letters, understood science and, to
116a certain extent, was a great ambassador. He was an intelligent,

132Gallifrey, the new Doctor Who series will feature an
133appearance by Henry VIII:

134

135
An article in the
136June 29 Daily Star says that the new Doctor Who series "will feature
137historic figures including Shakespeare, Henry VIII and Einstein - who
138are locked up together inside a Big Brother-style house. Famous
139housemates will face eviction and death from aliens when the classic
140sci-fi show comes back to our screens next year. The new series, which
141stars Christopher Eccleston as Dr Who, is aiming to win over a whole
142new generation of young followers of the Tardis timelord. Christopher
143said: 'We can parallel things with science fiction and address what's
144going on around us to a certain extent for young people without being
145pompous.' In one of the planned episodes of the hotly-awaited series,
146some of the world's most famous figures from the past are kidnapped
147from their time zones by aliens. They are put in a Big Bruvstyle house
148for extraterrestrial television entertainment." (Thanks

174Blanchett is expected to take the throne again and star in the epic -
175based on Queen Elizabeth I - which has the working title of Golden

198 1955
199version of
200Richard III. This was the third Shakespeare play which
201Olivier both directed and starred in (after Henry V and Hamlet)
202and remains the definitive film treatment of Richard III.
203Olivier's work is incredible, - he is the physical embodiment of
204villainy, plotting with gleeful malevolence one moment and inspiring
205our pity the next. And if anyone is wondering why this is
206included at the Tudor Media News page, well - the future Henry
207VII does make an appearance and the Battle of Bosworth Field marks both
208the end of Richard's life and the beginning of the Tudor dynasty.

214and Mary: Cousins, Rivals, Queens by Jane Dunn was recently
215released. I am still working on the new and improved Reviews
216section, but here is a quick review - a worthwhile addition to your
217Tudor library. I've read enough about both women to wonder if I
218would learn anything from this book, but I was pleasantly
219surprised. A liberal use of primary sources plus a lovely
220selection of portraits - and the book jacket and boards are beautifully
221designed. As competition for Alison Plowden's Two Queens in
222One Isle, this book is the better choice.

223

224

227 alt="John Guy biography" width="100" height="151">At last!
228Finally, another major biography of Mary Stuart has been
229released.
230 Queen of Scots: The True Life of Mary Stuart is by
231noted Tudor historian John Guy. Antonia Fraser's biography
232was serviceable but my own casual research revealed large gaps in her
233use of primary sources. I always wondered - when would another
234historian focus on Mary's tumultuous life? I should note that the
235UK version of this work is entitled My Heart is My Own: The Life of
236Mary Queen of Scots and the jacket features the Clouet sketch of an
237adolescent Mary. The American edition, shown above, has the 'hat'
238portrait minus the hat! As an admirer of
239 the hat
240and its fluffy feather, I'm rather disappointed.

248two existing major biographies of Anne (by Carrolly Erickson and Retha
249Warnicke), this one is the most successful 'popular' biography.
250And no, I don't mean 'popular' as a slur; far from it. I'll post
251my review at the new Reviews section when I've finished.
