| 37 | <Content><h2>Ngahere o Pukenui - a special place</h2><p>No one single value can be attributed the most important part of Pukenui Forest - Ngahere o Pukenui. This urban fringe forest is a connected whole between te whenua (the land), nga rakau (the trees), te korero o nga manu (the song of the birds). he tangata (the people) and te wairua (the spirit of the place).  This amazing site includes historical and cultural values within Coronation Scenic Reserve, the Barge Showgrounds and Whangarei Quarry Gardens, as well as the natural values of the forest itself and freshwater areas of the Whau Valley.</p><p>The Department of Conservation, Whangarei District Council, Northland Regional Council, iwi and local community representatives have come together to develop a management plan for Pukenui, with the following vision: Pukenui taonga, a forest treasure, a beating heart, with our help its health and wellbeing remains for future generations.</p><p>A staged approach to removing threats to the forest's ecological values is one of the first stages of long-term work to be undertaken. Developing clear public access points so more people can visit and enjoy Pukenui readily is also a priority for this amazing place in the heart of Whangarei. </p></Content>
