#273 assigned feature

collection grouping

Reported by: dmn Owned by: kjdon
Priority: moderate Milestone: Greenstone 3 wishlist
Component: Greenstone3 Runtime Severity: enhancement

Description (last modified by kjdon)

GS3 should have the ability to group collections into arbitrary sets for display purposes. Rather than listing all collections on a home page like nzdl.org we could just display a few group icons/titles, which lead to 'group home pages'.

Thoughts:

  • how to specify titles and icons?
  • how to specify group home pages, how to customise?
  • how to search and browse across groups?

David B has done this on his local Greenstone installation for Greenstone2

Severity: enhancement

In GS3 is this just a matter of putting the colls in different sites and then have a top level home page which links to the different sites (=== different servlets)?

How to have one collection in more than one place? sym links enough?

This is now pretty much fully implemented for gs2.

should do it for gs3 in the same manner - collectgroup fake collections in the collect directory.

We should implement the same thing as for gs2. Then maybe look at the site version later?

one known issue for GLI: file/WorkspaceTreeNode fix for collect group won't work for gs 3 - the start path will be wrong.

Anu believes the file/WorkspaceTreeNode problem may have been fixed while she was working on a different issue. Needs to be verified.
