gems on ubuntu

Description
on the list, someone reported that gems.sh didn't run on ubuntu. The error is ".: 215: setup.bash: not found".
It was solved by first running source setup.bash, then running gems.sh.
Is this still true? Can we fix it so they don't have to run setup.bash first?

The gems.sh file now runs through the same startup checks as gli.sh. Tested on Ubuntu 10.04 and works correctly.
