java 1.4 has included xalan stuff in it. if you put xalan.jar in your webapp, due to the way the different classes are loaded you get errors, eg The output format must have a '{​http://xml.apache.org/xalan}content-handler' property. so either need to use the one in java, or put the xalan.jar file into tomcats common/endorsed directory
